Qualcomm announces its Snapdragon W5 SoCs for wearables

Qualcomm announced the launch of its new SoCs Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and its vitamin variant, the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1which are manufactured using a manufacturing process of 4 nanometers (presumably from Samsung Foundry) applying great advantages over its predecessor, the Snapdragon War 4100+, thus summing up the data, doubled performance consuming 50% less power.

Performance improvements come from using 4x Cortex-A53 + 1x M55 @ 250MHz compared to the M0 @ 50 MHz of its predecessor (Cortex-A53s are retained). The graphics are now those Adreno A702 @ 1.00GHz (vs A504 @ 320 MHz), which adds an LPDDR4X @ 2133 MHz (vs LPDDR3 @ 733 MHz) memory controller and launches a U55 NPU for Machine Learning.

Other improvements go through the connectivity offer Bluetooth 5.3allows a speaker of 1W of power, manages notifications, will support configurations of 16+16 megapixel dual cameraNFC payments, and only takes 90mm2 (vs 128 mm of its predecessor), and all of this weighing 0.49 milligrams (vs 0.69), which will allow the creation of new wearable designs (watches, smart bracelets, etc.), while being more powerful, more lightweight and with improved battery life.

The company revealed that there are already 25 appliances in the oven based on its new SoC, with Mobvoi and Oppo being the first companies to get their silicon.
