A friend of mine called an expert trainer for one of his dogs last weekend. He told me that there is nothing wrong with the dog, he has only a few things that he is afraid of and overreacted to. He told me what the trainer did to the dog. He was fascinated by how the trainer used the entire desensitization and positive association process to “fix” the dog.
Regular positive reinforcements, as well as mild exposure to scary things, solve problems! I found it really interesting, so I share it with you.
Can we learn from this?
Well, it’s the same process as we continue to overcome fear (or when we’re afraid of something or afraid. Like losing weight or a new training regime. Now I’m not saying that I’m a dog, but psychology is the same.
Regular, mild exposure to scary things. Combined with some support and positive reinforcement is the key to your success. You have to understand if you are scared – which is normal.
It’s great to be scared. It’s great to be out of shape. It is not known what to eat.
If you take some action and expose yourself to everything that avoids or exposes your fears, you will get a warning. Yes, you will feel some of the bad feelings I have mentioned, such as fear, but you will also feel better and get more energy and maybe even be proud of yourself.
Over time, bad feelings will disappear and they will be replaced by positive ones. I can’t tell you it’s easy because I’m lying. But I can tell you that it will be workable. Be brave and face it when you close it. Accept FACT when you are outside your comfort zone. By definition, you feel uncomfortable, scared or whatever.
