Micron Technology announced the mass production of its new memory chips GDDR6X 16 GB capacity at 24 Gbit/s. Essentially, these are even better chips than those incorporated into the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, as they provide 15% extra return compared to its predecessors (21 Gbps). In this way, these chips are intended for gamers and very demanding content creators where this memory helps them in their work by being able to reach a bandwidth of 1 Tbps. Hopefully, the next model we see with this memory will already belong to the GeForce RTX 4000 series.
Today, Micron extends its performance leadership with new 16GB graphics memory running at industry-leading 21GB/s in the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. With a performance roadmap of up to 24 Gb/s, GDDR6X is ready for the data-intensive applications of the future. Additionally, Micron’s innovative use of PAM4 signaling techniques in the GDDR6X makes it more power efficient than any GDDR6 product on the market.
As games and graphics rendering techniques become more sophisticated, graphics processing units must move massive amounts of data at incredible speeds, which can tax system graphics memory. Virtual reality games, 4K and 8K monitors with 240Hz refresh rates, and intense 3D CAD applications test the limits of graphics systems. The unparalleled bandwidth of GDDR6X memory enables these high-resolution experiences with ultra-fast frame rates and near-instantaneous rendering, giving users realistic effects. Integrated with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics card, GDDR6X features enhance real-time ray tracing and neural graphics processing to deliver the immersive cinematic effects that virtual worlds demand. The GeForce RTX 3090 Ti features 24GB of GDDR6X enabling 40 teraflops of GPU performance.
GDDR6X’s high bandwidth is made possible by Micron’s innovative work with PAM4 signal transmission technology, which has revolutionized the way memory moves data. Micron’s PAM4 signaling technique enables GDDR6X to increase memory bandwidth and increase system bandwidth up to 1 TB/s, making it the optimal choice for graphics applications that require exceptionally high memory fast and low consumption. No other memory vendor offers this capability.
The addition of 16GB GDDR6X memory marks an important step in the growth of Micron’s ultra-bandwidth solution portfolio, which includes GDDR6 and HBM2E. Together, these solutions constitute the industry’s most comprehensive portfolio of high-performance, high-bandwidth products designed to power data-intensive applications.
