Intel Foundry Services now lets you design chips from the cloud

Intel Foundry Services (IFS) announced a new phase of its Accelerator Ecosystem Program, which results in IFS Cloud Alliance. Essentially, the company will allow its partners design your chips securely from the cloudwhich will improve the efficiency of customer’s molding design and accelerate time to market by harnessing the power of massive on-demand computing.

Initial program members include major cloud providers Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azureas well as key players in Electronic Design Automation (EDA).

“By leveraging the scalability of cloud-based design environments, the IFS Cloud Alliance will enable broader access to Intel’s advanced manufacturing and packaging technologies. Our partnerships with leading cloud providers and vendors of EDA tools will provide a flexible and secure platform where customers can scale requirements instantly in production-proven design environments in the cloud,” said Randhir Thakur, president of Intel Foundry Services.

Because it matters: Chip design is an incredibly complex process, requiring powerful software and hardware tools to create the intricate patterns that make up an integrated circuit design. Software traditionally ran on servers in local data centers, where companies could maintain control over the security and privacy of their valuable product designs. Although well-established fabless chip designers may have the resources to invest in these capabilities, they can pose a significant barrier to entry for many startups and other companies that lack large-scale in-house design teams. ladder.

Enabling cloud solutions provides greater access to advanced manufacturing technologies, giving customers a new path to bring their innovations to life. Cloud-based design combines the scalability of the EDA tool with the unparalleled parallelism offered by the cloud, supporting mission-critical design workloads that can benefit a wide variety of customers, from startups to enterprises with compute farms established in the facilities. New advances in EDA tools and cloud technologies can deliver IP security and privacy, while shortening design cycles and accelerating time to market for designers.

How it works: Through the Cloud Alliance, IFS will work with partners to ensure EDA tools are optimized to take advantage of cloud scalability while meeting Intel’s Process Design Kit (PDK) requirements. This will provide customers with a secure and scalable path to adopt their preferred EDA tools and workflows into the cloud environment, through partnerships with leading EDA vendors Ansys, Cadence, Siemens EDA and Synopsys. The result will be on-demand hardware on a foundry platform, allowing designers to handle larger workloads with better resource management, faster time to market, and higher quality output.

About IFS Accelerator: In February 2022, IFS launched its Accelerator Ecosystem Program to help foundry customers take their silicon products from idea to implementation. Through close collaboration with industry-leading companies, IFS Accelerator leverages the best capabilities available in the industry to help advance customer innovation in Intel’s foundry platform offerings. IFS Accelerator provides customers with a comprehensive set of tools, including validated EDA solutions, silicon-verified intellectual property (IP), and design services that allow customers to focus on creating unique product ideas.
