During its meeting with investors to unveil the financial results, CD Projekt RED revealed that since its launch in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 18 million copiesfigures significantly lower than expected after the disastrous launch suffered by the game, which even led to its withdrawal from sale or to the platforms of Sony, Microsoft or Steam admitting the return of money.
On the other hand, today The Witcher saga has exceeded 65 million copies soldThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt being by far the most popular installment, since only this one sold more than 40 million copies.
As far as the near future of CD Projekt RED is concerned, things don’t look very good, and that’s Next-Gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been delayed indefinitely after Saber Interactive was kicked out of the project. From now on, it will be the CD Projekt studio itself that will review all the work done so far to continue until its completion.
On another side, cyberpunk expansion 2077 will also arrive later than expected, especially by 2023in which 160 people work:
“For all of you who have already walked the streets of Night City – we are working on more DLC as well as a major expansion with a new storyline. We believe in the long-term potential of our new installment, so the one of our priorities for 2021 was to improve the gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077.
We are now pleased with the game and encouraged by player reception of its next-gen console edition, which launched in February. In total, we have already sold over 18 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077.”
