AMD Phoenix Point APUs with RDNA3 iGPU will not have Infinity Cache

It looks like AMD is betting big on Linux, as we saw in a recent job posting, where they were looking to hire engineers to develop new GPU drivers for Linux. AMD has now released new patches for linux which give us details such as future AMD APUs for laptop Ryzen 7000 (Phoenix Point) will not have the technology Infinite Cache.

The dream of the coelacantha Japanese website, inquired about recent driver fixes for AMD GPUs, the drivers Table for Linux. Interestingly, this comes shortly after AMD was looking for an engineer to fill a position based on Radeon Mesa drivers for Linux. That said, the web has discovered four identifiers for graphical architecture GFX11 from AMD, also known as RDNA3.

Navi 31, 32 and 33 GPUs will support DCN 3.2, while RDNA 3 APUs only DCN 3.1.4

All this may seem Chinese at first glance, but RCD is understood as Show next core which is basically the display engine. In general, DCN Engine updates add new features and functionality. For example, DNC 3.1 and DNC 3.2 support four monitor outputssomething that has been standard in RDNA2 and will continue to be in RDNA3.

That said, the Linux patch code confirms that AMD GPUs Navi 31, 32 and 33 they will have RCD 3.2.1 while the COULD based on RDNA 3 will be satisfied RCD 3.1.4. Moreover, we would know that the AMD Sabrina SoCswhich should happen with the architecture Zen4 and memory support LPDDR5will have RCD 3.1.6. Therefore, we summarize that APUs are stuck in DNC 3.1, losing the Infinite cache. This is an AMD technology that doubles the bandwidth and therefore the performance.

“As there is no description on MALL (Last level memory access) / Infinite cacheit seems that the RDNA 3/GFX11 APU will not be equipped with MALL/Infinity Cache, specifies Coelacanth’s Dream.”

As we see in the Linux patch information, future AMD graphics cards have been identified Navi 31GFX1100“, Navi 32GFX1102“, Navi 33GFX1101” and the COULDGFX1103“. Per previous leaks, Navi 31 corresponds to its flagship, the future AMD Radeon RX7900XT based on the RDNA3 architecture and should arrive with 12288 stream processors distributed in 96 UA. This would go to a frequency of 3.00GHzwould be accompanied by 24 GB of GDDR6 memoryand all this would generate a supposed consumption of 600W. Moreover, we will meet 384 MB of Infinite cachetripling the number of RDNA2.

Regarding the graphics chip Navi 32which would correspond to a medium-high chart, like a future RX7800will reach 8192 Stream processors in 64 UAclose to 16 GB of GDDR6 memory Yes 256 MB of Infinite cache. Finally, the Navi 33 will bring a mid-range chart to life as RX7700 with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, 4096 stream processors in 32 UA and with 128 MB of Infinite cache.

As for the APU, it will be the Phoenix Point series, i.e. the Ryzen 7000 line for laptops based on Zen 4 cores and RDNA 3 GPUs. monolithic chip tied in a knot 4nm of TSMC and as for its integrated graphics, not much is known, although it is estimated that they will arrive with 24 UA, double that the Rembrandt’s APUs running.
